VERIQUETE VINEYARD

ORGANIC VINEYARDS UNDER CONVERSION.

VARIETIES: 95% Tempranillo and 5% Viura.

OUTPUT: 5,000 Kg/Ha. Medium – high variability.

SURFACE AREA: 4 Hectares.

LOCATION: to the east of Lanciego, between Lanciego and Yécora.

ALTITUDE: 620 metres.

ASPECT: NE–SW (the Exceptional Vineyard of Poncoles N-S).

FEATURES: Single vineyard with espalier-trained vines, with a steep south-facing slope that ensures exceptional exposure to the sunlight. Good protection from the wind and frost.

YEAR PLANTED: 1960-2002.

CLIMATE: Mediterranean climate with Atlantic influences. The altitude and exposure lead to lower temperatures and strong winds. Less influenced by the mountains.

WINEGROWING SOIL: Surface horizon that is severely eroded above all by the steep gradient. Outcropping of the large horizontal slabs that characterize this vineyard and enable its survival, due to their ability to retain the water available for the vines. The roots can develop between these slabs. This soil is very poor in surface organic matter and nutrients and in the presence of carbonates deeper down.
