REÑANA VINEYARD

UNDER CONVERSION TO ORGANIC PRODUCTION.

VARIETIES: 70% Tempranillo, 20% Viura and 10% Maturana Tinta.

OUTPUT: Average output of 3,500 – 4,000 Kg/Ha.

SURFACE AREA: 8 Hectares.

LOCATION: to the north-east of Laguardia, between Laguardia and Elvillar de Álava.

ALTITUDE: Between 560 and 600 metres.

ASPECT: mainly E-W 90%, with 10% of N-S.

FEATURES: Divided into 5 vineyards with different varieties, slopes, training systems and aspects. Dominated by ancient goblet-shaped vines with narrow plantation frameworks.

YEAR PLANTED: 1920 (55%) - 2000.

CLIMATE: Mediterranean climate with Atlantic influences. Dominated by cold winds favoured by the relief of the terrain. A cold mesoclimate with below average temperatures for the area, greatly influenced by the mountains.

WINEGROWING SOIL: Dominated by clayey-loamy soils, which are very shallow and have numerous rocks on the surface. Strong erosive action which must be managed well to keep it in check. Excellent conservation of moisture, poor soils with limestone at medium depths. Low vine vigour with very closely contained development.
