RIOJA ORIENTAL / MONTE YERGA

MURIEL WINES IN RIOJA ORIENTAL

In general, the grape production area nestles in a valley bounded by two large mountain ranges, the Sierra de Cantabria and the Sistema Ibérico, forming a space with great geographical diversity:

Rioja Oriental: This is above all a valley area in which the vineyards are laid out around the River Ebro, although it also has some higher areas, such as the large extension of vineyards on the foothills of the Sierra de Yerga.

The easternmost part of the Rioja PDO is dominated by large extensions of vineyards planted on soils which are strongly influenced by the different rivers that irrigate the region.

The vines in this area are gently rocked by the north wind, while the dry atmosphere results in less cold winters and hotter summers. This enables us to obtain grapes in excellent conditions, ripeness and health, the hallmark of this territory.

Rioja Oriental has clay-ferrous and alluvial soils thanks to which the wines from this area are light and half-bodied.

The influence of the Mediterranean climate is a key factor in the easternmost part. The drier, warmer climate in the vineyards at lower altitude leads to better-structured wines with higher alcohol content, while the mountainous areas of this region are considered amongst the coldest in the Rioja PDO, so producing enormous contrasts and great diversity.
